Contemporary Social and Legal Issues in a Social Media Age

Wednesday 14th June 2023 – Keele Hall

We are inviting abstract submissions for a one-day interdisciplinary conference funded by the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS). We would be looking to publish papers as part of an edited collection with Edinburgh University Press (subject to peer review and the approval of the Edinburgh University Press Committee). Abstracts from ECRs and Practitioners would be very welcomed.

Without limiting the call for papers, we are interested in exploring the following themes:

  • Young people and social media
  • Sports Law and social media
  • The regulation of social media (criminal or civil)
  • Marginalised groups and social media
  • Mental health and social media
  • Practitioners’ experiences of dealing with cases involving social media
  • The development of the Online Safety Bill

The deadline for submitting abstracts (300 words maximum) is Thursday 20 December 2022. Decisions will be made by Tuesday 31 January 2023. Please submit your abstract to l.a.higson-bliss@keele.ac.uk.

Important information:
There is no conference fee to attend although please note the conference will be taking place in person. We have some bursaries available to support successful applicants with travel arrangements, including a dedicated fund for PGRs. Applicants whose abstracts have been accepted will be notified on how to apply to the bursary in their conformation email.
